The Key Laboratory of Mechanical Behavior and Design of Materials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held the 2023 Annual Academic Conference and Academic Committee Meeting

On the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the establishment of the Key Laboratory of Mechanical Behavior and Design of Materials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Key Laboratory), the Key Laboratory held its 2023 Academic Conference and Academic Committee Meeting at Anhui Expressway Kaiyuan International Hotel on December 16. Academician Wei Yueguang, Director of the Academic Committee of the Key Laboratory and Peking University, Academician Leng Jinsong of Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Feng Xiqiao of Tsinghua University, Professor Kang Guozheng of Southwest Jiaotong University, Professor Kang Yilan of Tianjin University, Professor Qu Shaoxing of Zhejiang University, Professor Shen Shengping of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Professor Zhang Zhong of the University of Science and Technology of China were invited to attend the meeting. Academician Wu Xiaoping, the first director of the Academic Committee of the Key Laboratory, Professor Yu Jilin, the first director of the Key Laboratory, Professor Wu Heng'an, Executive Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences, Professor Gong Xinglong, Director of the Key Laboratory, Professor Xu Feng, Deputy Director, and more than 320 teachers and students attended the meeting in stages, and Xu Min, Deputy Director of the Scientific Research Department, was invited to provide guidance.

The conference was divided into several stages including opening ceremony, plenary report, graduate student forum and award ceremony.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Wu Hengan, who first extended a warm welcome to Academicians Wu Xiaoping, Wei Yueguang, Leng Jinsong, the leaders of the Research Department, experts from the Academic Committee, and guests attending the conference.

In his speech at the conference, Vice Minister Xu Min affirmed that the key laboratory has achieved good results since its establishment. He hoped that the key laboratory would listen carefully to the opinions of experts, further refine the laboratory's research direction based on solving major national needs and cutting-edge scientific problems, and further build the laboratory into a key laboratory that can solve major national needs, represent the highest level in the domestic mechanics field, and have international influence.

Leader's speech

Professor Gong Xinglong gave a brief report on the laboratory's team building, the main achievements in 2022-2023, and work thoughts and prospects for 2024. He said that in the future the laboratory will be committed to building cutting-edge platforms and developing advanced mechanical methods; promoting simulation design and exploring the structure-function relationship; focusing on structural regulation and achieving breakthroughs in material properties; and expanding the application of mechanics in response to national needs.

Work report of key laboratory director

The conference reports were hosted by Professor Gong Xinglong and Professor Xu Feng. Five young backbones of the key laboratory, Professor Xu Feng, Special Professor Sun Shuaishuai, Associate Professor Zhu Yinbo, Associate Professor Zheng Zhijun, and Associate Professor Wang Sheng, were invited to share their latest scientific research results with the themes of Construction and mechanical design of a comprehensive experimental platform for internal mechanical measurement, R&D and application of practical magnetorheological materials and their industrial transformation, Multi-scale mechanics and design of advanced structural materials, Design of lightweight protective materials, and Mechanical behavior measurement and flexible sensing technology research of shear thickening materials.

Conference report

After the report, Academician Wei Yueguang presided over the meeting of the Academic Committee. Experts had a heated discussion on the content of the report and offered suggestions for the development of the key laboratory. They unanimously affirmed the work of the key laboratory and believed that the key laboratory was excellent and distinctive. At the same time, it was suggested that everyone should focus on developing universal mechanical theories and methods, and actively develop the concept of results that can obtain higher-level scientific and technological awards; focus on national development needs, develop laboratory scale, and become a laboratory site leading the development of domestic mechanics; focus on basic mechanics research, cultivate all-round talents in interdisciplinary disciplines, strengthen cross-disciplinary cooperation within the laboratory, and strive to make breakthroughs in innovation groups and major projects.

After the graduate student forum report, everyone had a free exchange on the poster.

This key laboratory academic conference received a positive response from the majority of graduate students, who signed up to participate in oral presentations and posters. After preliminary selection by the Office Committee, a total of 33 presentations and 46 posters were arranged. After evaluation by the expert group, 13 students including Li Wenwen, Wang Wenhui, Lv Yumei, Cui Fenglu, Ge Yun, Liang Li, Mai Xianlong, Li Jiyu, Xu Liqun, Wang Xinyi, Cui Xuwei, Zhang Yuanrui, and Song Rongzhuang won the Outstanding Report Award; 20 students including Chen Wenjie, Cai Yu, Pan Yucheng, Sun Yuxi, Liu Haodong, Chen Longkui, Jiang Menglai, Gao Qigan, Zhang Ruyue, Li Binzhao, Fan Jianing, Wang Jingshan, Huang Mengcheng, Wang Quan, Xu Wenlong, Wang Deya, Ge Duan, Ouyang Yiming, Sui Mengli, Babar Hayat won the Excellent Report Award; 15 students including Lin Xinyue, Yu Qiuzi, Chen Hong, Fan Ziyang, Zhou Jianyu, Lou Congcong, Li Zimu, Lin Xinyi, Mei Lin, Zhang Bingyuan, Wang Wenpan, Zhang Zhongting, Chen Meiduo, Yuan Liangzhu, and Wang Shaohua won the Outstanding Poster Award. Dai Chenghao, Li Dan, Xing Yitao, Xu Ailin, Chen Yiyu, Tao Jian, Zheng Li, Li Yan, Liu Yifei, Ma Yulong, Wang Zhanming, Wu Han, Zhao Bowen, Wu Naicheng, Yang Yuanfan, Xie Jinjiang, Liu Qian, Yang Ke, Chen Pengcheng, Liu Mengqi, Niu Xinya, Qiu Wei, Zhang Jiahui, Zhen Yu, Chen Pengshu, Ren Zhongguo, Wu Yangfan, Xu Yunqi, Tong Shiyuan, Luo Zhendong, Yi Yanji and 31 other students won the Excellent Poster Award. Director Gong Xinglong presided over the award ceremony.

Through this annual meeting, the research results of each research group of the key laboratory were fully exchanged, laying a solid foundation for further cooperation. Teachers and students expressed that they would further implement the suggestions of experts in future scientific research work, effectively overcome the key and difficult scientific and technological problems of the country, and contribute to the country's scientific and technological strength.
