The 3rd meeting of the 10th Solid Mechanics Committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics and the Solid Mechanics Development Strategy Seminar were successfully held in Hefei

From April 14 to 16, 2023, the 3rd meeting of the 10th Solid Mechanics Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics and the Solid Mechanics Development Strategy Seminar were successfully held in Hefei, Anhui. The meeting was hosted by the Solid Mechanics Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics, and co-organized by the Key Laboratory of Mechanical Behavior and Design of Materials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the School of Engineering Sciences of the University of Science and Technology of China. More than 140 invited experts, including members of the Solid Mechanics Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics from 49 universities and research institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, and the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, well-known scholars in the field of solid mechanics, and teachers and students from the organizing units, totaling more than 200 people attended the meeting. Focusing on the theme of Frontiers and Intersections in Solid Mechanics, everyone conducted extensive academic exchanges on the core scientific issues and neck-stuck engineering and technical problems in the frontier field of solid mechanics, how to enhance the international academic influence of my country's solid mechanics and its ability to serve the country, and thus further promote the sustained and rapid development of my country's solid mechanics.

The opening ceremony of the conference was hosted by Professor Wu Heng'an, Executive Dean of the School of Engineering Science of the University of Science and Technology of China. Professor Shu Gequn, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University of Science and Technology of China, Academician Du Shanyi, Dean of the School of Engineering Science of the University of Science and Technology of China, Academician Chen Xuedong, Deputy General Manager of China Machinery Industry Corporation, and Academician Zhou Youhe, Chairman of the Solid Mechanics Committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

The conference specially invited Academician Yu Qifeng from the National University of Defense Technology, Academician Guo Wanlin from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Academician Chen Xuedong from China National Machinery Industry Corporation, Professor Feng Xiqiao from Tsinghua University, Professor Zhang Zhong from the University of Science and Technology of China, Professor Duan Huiling from Peking University, and Professor Qu Shaoxing from Zhejiang University to give keynote speeches entitled Flexible camera network methods and systems for static and dynamic deformation monitoring of wide-area infrastructure, Fatigue and fracture mechanics and durability issues of aerospace structures, Technological progress of important hydrogen energy storage and transportation equipment in my country, Mechanical-chemical-biological coupling theory of biological tissues, Mechanical design and application of carbon nanocomposites, Underwater fluid-solid coupling slip boundary mechanics, and Mechanics of highly elastic soft materials: constitutive, failure and toughening mechanisms.

After the conference report, Academician Zhou Youhe presided over the third meeting of the Solid Mechanics Committee. The members and experts discussed the latest development trends of solid mechanics, the new requirements of social and industrial development for solid mechanics, how solid mechanics can serve the national development, the growth of young talents in solid mechanics, and the academic exchange activities of the committee. The meeting determined that Ningbo University would host the next expanded meeting of the Solid Mechanics Committee, and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences would jointly host the next National Solid Mechanics Conference.

During the meeting, the Party Branch of the Solid Mechanics Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics, in accordance with the general requirements of the theme education of studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, learning ideas, strengthening party spirit, emphasizing practice, and making new contributions and the requirements of the Party Building and Strengthening Association Plan of the China Association for Science and Technology, tracing the red footprints and all hearts are toward the party, self-reliance and self-improvement, jointly with the Party Branch of the Key Laboratory of Mechanical Behavior and Design of Materials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, went to the Anhui Innovation Hall and the Memorial Hall of the Crossing the Yangtze River Campaign to carry out on-site teaching activities on the theme of Carrying forward the red revolutionary spirit and strengthening the belief in serving the country through science and education.
